This week is ‘Global Asbestos Awareness Week’ and it is more important than ever to remind everybody about the danger of Asbestos. To help put this on the top of the agenda, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is going to share the story of a ‘Mesothelioma Warrior’ every day from the 1st to the 7th of April.
Asbestos related illness is a truly global issue, with the World Health Organisation estimating that approximately 125 million people across the world are exposed to asbestos in the workplace and 107,000 people die each year as a result.
Worldwide initiatives are also in the fight against asbestos including the upcoming European Asbestos Forum which aims to improve professional networks and the exchange of knowledge regarding all matters related to asbestos or the work of the International Ban Asbestos Secretariat (IBAS).
In the UK, several charities are providing support to asbestos sufferer and their families such as:
• Mesothelioma UK,
• Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund
• Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation
• The British Lung Foundation
